摘要:The fractional quantum Hall state at filling factor 5/2 is believed to support non-Abelian anyons and, hence, topological quantum computation. Even though earlier experiments on current noise, quasiparticle tunneling, and local charge all confirmed the existence of quasiparticles with a quarter of an electron charge, the nature of the state is still elusive. The focus of this talk is on the recent experimental efforts in demystifying the state, including the measurements of upstream noise, quasiparticle tunneling, thermal Hall conductance, and quasiparticle interference. These experiments offer convincing evidences that the 5/2 ground state is some variant of the Moore-Read state, whose quarter-charge quasiparticle excitations obey non-Abelian statistics. Relevant theoretical understandings will also be reviewed.

报告人简介:万歆,1995年本科毕业于复旦大学物理系,2000年获得普林斯顿大学电子工程系博士学位。其后五年在美国佛罗里达州高磁场国家实验室和德国卡尔斯鲁厄研究中心纳米技术所从事博士后研究。2005年回国加入浙江大学物理系。万歆教授的主要研究方向涉及分数量子霍尔效应、拓扑量子计算、以及无序和关联电子系统。
